Reflection

I have heard this course last semester, and in my impression the course had home work every week so that I thought this course could let me learn many tools for learning English. In this semester, my classmate, Lily, has told me that she was glad to join this course with me, we actually knew many information and could use many tools.

In the first week, we needed to write 100 words introduction of ourselves. I thought 100 words are not too long and I had not too much pressure. Then, we set a blog to show our achievement, recorded everything what we learned and this media was really good to show everyone.

Actually every tools I learned from the course I saw them as treasures, and I am willing to share with my family and friends. For example, learner dictionary is really useful and we can learn English in English. Moreover, podcast is my favorite learning resource. In the beginning, they converse in slowly way, so that I have time to think out what the word means. Next they would tell us what the word means in English not translation in Chinese. Finally, after reading the topic, when they converse in normal speed, we can totally understand the meaning.

We not only learn many tools from this course but also we knew many ideas through the Job Steve’s speech and the TED such as we need to believe our destinies and our looks aren’t everything.

Finally, I was surprised at open course ware. This kind of education resources is fantastic! Even if we are not the students in those schools, we still could learn the same courses. For example, we are not the students who studies in National Taiwan University, but we have the same resources. Besides, from the open course ware I can stop anywhere I want to listen again. I like this kind of open course ware.

After the course of computer assistant learning language, I realized that we can learn not only the tools but also searching information in convenient way. Although there is a little different with my imaging, it is a good different that we can learn more than what in my imaging. I will use this resources on my way of learning and in my leisure time, and I am grateful to the teacher Lai. You are so willing to teach and share all these treasures. Thank you!

#6 After watching TEDTALKS

Cameron Russell: Looks aren't everything. Believe me, I'm a model.

In the past few years, I always told to my friend that I was not beautiful, and she told me why you so cared about your appearance? That's not the important in your life! Thus, I tried to adjust my thought, tried to less care about it, and I think I can do it now.

Cameron Russell said she won "a genetic lottery." but don't judge her by her looks.

We always think if our foot could be longer, we would be more confident. She said maybe those top model are the most beautiful, but they are also insecure people.

I am agreed with her saying that looks aren't everything.

#5 The same kind of experience as Jobs' one

The story is about connecting the dots.

My father always tell me something was happened, such as 911 attack and some histories.
However, I was not interested in history because I didn't think history could be rewritten.

One day, my teacher asked me many questions about history, although I didn't really know what was happened, I still remembered the result of history. Since then I really want to understand history and I am interested in history.

I learned an old saying that a lesson is repeated until learned. The same things can happen again and again, but we can use different ways to face problems and change the current situation.
We have to trust in our destiny.

#4 Steve Jobs

1. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college.

2. I didn't see it then, but it turned out the getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

3. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it.

4. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did.

5. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice.

#3 Podcast - my listening learning resource

I like podcast as a learning resource.

In the beginning, they converse in slowly way, so that I have time to think out what the word means.
Next he would tell us what the word means in English. I like this way.
Finally, We have read the topic, when they converse in normal speed, we can totally understand.

We can use podcast in convenience way, and I have a suggestion that if we can choose our favorite topic, that will be fun.

#2 Using learner dictionary

I had five words confusing to me below, and I used learner dictionary searching their definitions.

Strain :a feeling of being worried and nervous about something

Sentence : The strain of the last few months had exhausted her.
Swap : to give something to someone and get something from them in return

Sentence :Would you mind swapping places with me?
Reinforce : to make something stronger

Sentence :A security door reinforced by steel bars reinforced concrete.
Commuter : someone who regularly travels between work and home

Sentence :The train was packed with commuters.
Preferable : better or more suitable

Sentence :Staying at home is preferable to going out with someone you don't like.

I think learner dictionary is better than Google or yahoo which I used to use.
Learner dictionary is specific and I like learning English with their meanings.

I'm glad that I have a new tool to learn English.
